The kitchen is the heart of every home. We have completely rebuilt the kitchen at Glenholme with a big central island and heavy wooden worktops which are at once traditional and practical. There are bowls of fruit on the table, jars of dry ingredients on the shelves and parsley growing in pots in the window. It is here that we cook the breakfast and prepare the dinners. Here, too, Jennifer makes her jams and her increasingly famous sloe gin. It is a true family kitchen, with an alcove where we can sit and work or eat in what used to be the coal store.
